Spam Hammer

The staff needs to start going through the reported posts and actually taking action on the reported posts. I have lost count of the amount of posts that I have reported over the last few days that were just straight up blatant spam. Nothing is being done, because if it were some members wouldnt be running around with 40 spam posts and nothing happening to them.

the spam needs to get taken care of, or get people put in place to do it.

I'm not saying the spam is out of control, but its starting to pile up and things arent being done to stop ot any more.

Where have I read this before? And without that spam LG would be a ghost town. Isnt half of LGs post made up of spam?

I agree, some people are getting into UG by spamming randomness, it needs to stop.

I never said eradicate safe spam, because then the top poster would have like 400 posts, because we all safe spam a little, thats not a lie, but im talking about straight-blatant spamming that hasnt gone checked or been taken care of, even though its obviously had to have been reported at least 10 times.

Im just saying that just because LG isnt really active doesnt mean that rules shouldnt be followed or enforced. I remember when it was super strict and that was when LG had its all time user log-on of 17k members (yea, i know. long ass time ago).

Im just saying it cant be ignored forever just because its creating activity. Its not the good kind of activity, its the bad. The very bad kind. The kind that makes us look like CEF.

BooBearsh, im not saying everything has to be gone, but something has to stop the spam. you hate spam as much as i do, and have reported thousands of posts on your time, so you know that some measure has to be taken. and safe spam, thats whatever, but spam that is obvious spam, and isnt even close to being on topic cant run unchecked, and it has.

im just saying that something has to be done about it.

Im just saying that we need some spackle, some dry wall, and maybe a few layers of extra industrial strength polymer. and those holes whould be filled.

the cracks will never go away, but the holes need to be filled. (waiting for the thats what she said a lot of people are going to say to themselves).

I'm not saying it doesn't, however, like I said, there's just so much of it, that most of LG's posts for the past week or twuld be gone.

then that comes down to inactivity on the part of the members. ive been spamming gaia with adds and threads about LG for a week now, im suprised that other members havent taken up the same. LG used to pull in new members every week, dozens of them ,and a lot of them stayed with the site. Maybe a mass and net wide recruitment needs to be going on to reverse the spam for actual posts.

You could just be pulling in spammers by doing so.Maybe more mods, but that would decrease the value of it and a lot of people would use it as a superiority contest. Other then suggesting they do what they should be doing, what's the point ?

@Scrubs: We need activity. No way around it, and if that means safe spam, sure whatever, its better than nothing, but not just straight spamming, thats how a site falls apart. and we dont need staff, we just need the current staff to go through the posts. Jason, Alex, and Eric (the admin team, figure it out) have been busy, but they always have time, they just need to police a little more.

There is no need to depreciate LG by only bringing in and allowing spammers to rule the site, thats not what LG is about, and I dont care what happens, i dont want to live to see it end up that way.

I can read, but if his hope is that with more members there will be less safe spam it's a guaranteed fail.

@Souleater ; Of course, who wants to see lg like that, but their have been plenty other threads stating that mods need to step up and become more active. I think it's cool you want to make a point, but I also think its clear that those who are spamming are dealt with in time. Safe spamming is where the b.s starts.. why justify the spamming. In a way I'm being a hypocrite, but rule one thing out rule the brothers or sisters too.

I second this motion, but I don't think that would cut back on spam. The only solution is heavy moderation. Maybe not just bans all over the place, but slaps on the wrist for new members. I'd say LG is fairly "strict" in it's rules compared to a lot of other forums.

Thats exactly what I'm talking about. Stupid posts that are irrelevant on every level need to be handled.

I remember suggesting that UG apps be put up, but there really isnt any need since there isnt anything in the UG that is really really worth it. Dont get me wrong, it would force activity and all of that garbage, but it would still end up the way it used to be.

@Scrubs: I never said that more members and activity means less safe spam, because safe spam will never be gone. Its like the annoying drunk girl at a party, it will never go away.

@Rundeer: I remember in 1.0 moderation got very heavy for a short time, and it didnt kill activity, but it slowed it down, and stopped a lot of the spam, and then gravedigging, but it never really did anything to stop the bad spam at all. it just slowed it down. So heavy moderation doesnt really do anything.
