I didn't take offense. I just dislike it when things don't make sense in such large quantities. Also, I didnt complain about racial slurs. I make fun of all races equally. And you weren't talking about how not to get scammed if you were referring to buying gold from the gaia main site. To reiterate, I didn't take offense But let me continue on!

In case you didn't realize it, if no one donated to gaia, gaia could not be free to play, if gaia wasn't free to play, nobody would play it. Thus, gaia would die. So in essence, you're running an anti-gaming campaign. Sure. Okay, that's nice and all. Except, I know for a fact that you game too. Whether it be CoD or World of warcraft, you play games. So really, its hypocrisy at it's best for you to say games are a waste of money. Subscribing trld of warcraft is like spending a quarter at an arcade every day. Is it a waste of money? Sure. I used to pay someone in an MMO i played to tutor me in calc back when I was a junior in high school, and hey. It helped alot. I had fun learning because I was playing a game while a tutor explained derivatives to me. I've also acquired a knack of business sense because of all the years I've leisurely played MMOs, and played markets in MMOs to get to the top of 90% of the ones I've played (at one point or another). Didn't take long, just a fun way for me to learn how to invest (which has helped for business decisions as well as my VSE portfolio). Frankly, MMO's have taught me a shit more than whatever knowledge you may have obtained from the computer if you ask my opinion.

Lastly, back to the global warming point. You must be one of those suckers who believe that 2012 shit that global warmings gonna melt the ice caps and kill the world. How about instead of worrying about global warming (which the theory is a very realistic idea, however, the implementation of stupidity is astounding by people who think the world will end.) It will take atleast another century for water levels to increase and flooding to occur on some of our land masses. Additionally, the threat is not as realistic as everyone believes because some land masses are floating. So the idea that the entire world will flood and drown is stupid. I don't know if every continent is an island (can always look it up later) but to any islands that exist, news flash. They're floating. Things won't just sink if the polar ice caps slowly melt. And anyone who thinks they'll melt overnight should get a big boot to the head because a flash flood is really the only viable way an island will sink.

About this knowledge gaining mmos you talk about, you could argue the fact that they teach you stuff. But in reality they don't, you said you learned math from it, wrong. You learned from someone over the internet. Learning that was no help whatsoever from the mmo. You could gopgle online tutors and get any tutor in the world you need. Okay so you learned how to market. That's good. Buy low and sell high? I mean that's pretty good and all. Im gonna take it you've graduated from high school here. Mmos taught you how to market. Ill agree there, but it is not hard to learn at all. There's basically 3 things you need to know, what sells, how to sell it, and how much profit it makes. There's more to it than that yea. But im pretty sure you could goto your local Hastings and pick up buinsess ed and marketing for dummies, for around $10 and you will learn just as much. So $10 over a subscription for wow for 4 months. What's cheaper? Not the mmo. So you paid to learn marketing at an astounding price. Hell school teaches you how to do it for free. Wow, I saw that everyone else in this thread was posting long, long, extremely long, did I mention long? Paragraphs of randomness. So, I figured "Hey, whatevz. I'll join in on the fun!" and that's why I'm here now! I, for one, am here to join in on the random paragraph writing and overall thread spamming. Meh. Writing this paragraph is getting boring because I technically shouldn't be on the internet at all. I told myself that today I would learn how to fakie and hopefully, if I have enough time and strength, how to 180 all on a BMX bike. Today I found out that I could bunnyhop half a foot, so I figured "Hey, why not try doing a 180?" and I ended up looking up a guide to it on youtube. Today, though, I have to legit learn it. It might be kind of hard because I screwed up my elbow yesterday after I was drifting in the rain on my bike and got thrown full off of it after doing a 180 at a little under 10 MPH, which is pretty freaking fast on a bike you're being thrown off of. So, in the end, I had a few rocks embedded in my arm but mostly it was just a rug burn type scrape from sliding along wet concrete. It didn't really hurt, but I can feel it every time I bend my elbow Because of that, it could get annoying bunnyhopping all day today. I'm still slightly confused on that guide Kain made on hacking Jailbroken iPods with OpenSSH. Is anyone else? I'm going to read the guide again in hopes that I'll understand it this time. Hmm, I'm tempted to make a new FLP today... not sure. In truth, yesterday I was on LG, then minecraft for two hours, then LG and YouTube, then I rode my bike to 7-11 to get some chexmix, then I rode back and sat on the internet again. Then I ate dinner, then I stayed up and read the book Kingpin and then I wrote a story on my laptop, then I went to bed around 3 AM. What I've acquired is a mentality, a vision on how to view things, business ideals, business fundamentals, experience with customers, experience with mass psychology, years of experimentation in multiple microeconomies. You'd have to study for 4 days just to comprehend all the things I've learned from MMOs. I'm not saying that everyone uses MMOs to learn this, nor am I saying this is the most effective way. However, from my age ever since I was 12 years old, it's given me a drive to better myself and try to be the best. One that I lacked in school, because as all kids will agree, school is boring.

The end all is that teachers suck for the most part. Not all, but most of them. They don't teach you the fundamentals, they attempt to pound memorization into your head. It makes you book smart, but useless in real life. What's the point of having knowledge when you can't apply it? That is the very DEFINITION of booksmart. Book smart is synonymous in my books for useless. You know all this information, but don't know how to use it.

I won't argue that there was a third party in tutoring me in math on that game, however, that's what games are. They're entertainment mixed with social networking. Discarding that aspect of a game is like discarding teachers from schools. They come with the package. (Tutors also can't be paid for by a 15 year old kid. They're pricey and 90% of the time, useless)

good luck learning 180s, just remember to turn your head. That's like the most important thing, and since your learning land in a 180 with your bars already slightly turned. @Supra: There is something that this generation doesn't realize, and they will learn it once they get a real job. There is no such thing as teaching something you do yourself. You could learn the same thing as I learned from MMO's in 4 days? No, that's ludicrous. What I've acquired is a mentality, a vision on how to view things, business ideals, business fundamentals, experience with customers, experience with mass psychology, years of experimentation in multiple microeconomies. You'd have to study for 4 days just to comprehend all the things I've learned from MMOs. I'm not saying that everyone uses MMOs to learn this, nor am I saying this is the most effective way. However, from my age ever since I was 12 years old, it's given me a drive to better myself and try to be the best. One that I lacked in school, because as all kids will agree, school is boring.

The end all is that teachers suck for the most part. Not all, but most of them. They don't teach you the fundamentals, they attempt to pound memorization into your head. It makes you book smart, but useless in real life. What's the point of having knowledge when you can't apply it? That is the very DEFINITION of booksmart. Book smart is synonymous in my books for useless. You know all this information, but don't know how to use it.

I won't argue that there was a third party in tutoring me in math on that game, however, that's what games are. They're entertainment mixed with social networking. Discarding that aspect of a game is like discarding teachers from schools. They come with the package. (Tutors also can't be paid for by a 15 year old kid. They're pricey and 90% of the time, useless)

oh yea you said teachers suck. Maybe true. But guess what, if you listen to what they teach you learn it. If I was playing an mmo and doing my ap stats work and I got stuck and I had to ask a 15 year old over a game. I'd be scared. Thankfully with teachers there job is to make you understand it. So if I have a problem I ask a teacher and they sit you through it and teach you how to solve it. In the end. Teachers don't suck. Its one of the very things that actually helps America, were lucky we have the schooling we get here, you shouldn't take it for granted. The thing you meant to say is, THIS generation sucks. Its lazy video game saavy, and doesn't pay attention to school, so what do they do? Blame it on the teachers.

I said most teachers suck . As my mother is a teacher, I know the definition of a good teacher. That is not 99% of the teachers in our education system. 99% of educators are greedy idiots looking for their own benefits in a profession (teacher benefits are immense and laying off teachers from unions is far from easy). A floating island is possible. It's a bunch of plants that are floating on top of the water. This does NOT mean all islands are floating.
Hawaii is an island right? Well, rather a series of islands. Hawaii is not floating. It is firmly rooted to the sea floor, thousands of feet underwater. It's main island is actually a huge fucking volcanic mountain that is submerged up to just the cap. Taller than everest.

I did not state ALL land masses are islands. I DID state that all islands are floating. I personally consider a landmass anything atop a volcanic rock. I apologize for my vague wording. Still, I in no sense stated that ALL continents and hawaii-like landmasses were islands.

Edit: When I get home from work, I'm totally going to go on google maps, zoom into the middle of a lake and laugh at you. Until then, that's way too fucking laggy on a work comp. (Additonally, to the main point, I simply gestured that there is no way for the entire world to be engulfed underneath water. There are floating islands around, and they can be sturdy, while most are not).

I did apologize for my vague explanation. But for terminology, everyone has a slightly differing definition to a word. By the standards of wikipedia, not all islands are floating. They take island as a definition of a landmass which the surface level is too low surround an entire land level, segregating it from other / bigger landmasses such as continents. Great Britain is a series of "islands" but, if the sea level were to drop, it would be another connected part of Europe. This "floating algae", has been around since ancient times, and while generally not long lasting, it has been proven sturdy enough (to my recollection) to hold up shelter. Not buildings of course, but the theory can be improved upon as a possible innovative addition to a serious case of sea levels rising due to global warming.

So you are seriously suggesting that when the sea level rises we all become nomads on wandering islands of algae?
