What OS do you use?

Which operating system/platform do you use primarily? Optionally, explain why.

Feel free to post accompanying computer specs.

Windows 7 64-bit

Easy to use. Supports Steam and my favorite games. Came with my gaming laptop anyway, so why not. Don't know Linux, no reason to learn it. Ez decision.

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. Came with laptop that would have normally come with Vista, so why not. Can't run linux, drivers for the fan are windows only, so it can only run for approx. 30 min. 1.5 GHz processor, 150 GB hard drive, 1GB RAM. Works for me.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I dont have a computer soo this is my laptop's spec: Core i7 2670-QM CPU @ 2.20Ghz, 8GB RAM, 700 GB hard drive, and Nvidia GeForce GT55M. The video card is old compares to newer laptops nowadays.

do you mean "GT 555M"? there's no such thing as "GT55M".
2.20ghz, that's a smack to the face for an i7. 8gb's of ram is perfect, and a 700GB hard drive is perfect as well.

I use windows seven home premium 64 bit for gaming, every day tasks/things, necessities, etc...
Fedora is my optional operating system for stuff windows can't do

Our school had macs so I kind of got used to it and bought my own.

Win 7 But i need to reformat, probably gonna stick with win 7. Anybody use win 8?

Windows 7. Probably going to stay on 7 for awhile. 8 looks and feels like shit. I don't see 9 being better.

I'm sorry I meant GT 555 M hehe. Yeah I know the cpu isn't that great :'') buut it's more than enough for now

I take it that the majority of people here use Windows 7.

Fedora is cool. I like Fedora/Debian/Ubuntu mainly and I've been meaning to try the daunting Slackware distro.

I'm running a notebook with Windows 8 right now, but generally I prefer Win7. 8 is actually not too bad, I like some aspects of it more than 7.

Sup hipster. From an unbiased standpoint, 7 is only marginally better than 8. I do concede that 7 is superior right now though. But yeah, I hate to say it but you are mistaken. All 8 needs is some polishing to put it over the top. A couple of service packs + updates will probably deem it the better OS. (Windows 8.1 is coming out soon, but I don't think that will be the "be all end all" solution.)

So you can definitely count on Win9 being a better OS than its antecedent in Windows 7.

As per topic: I use Windows XP/7/8 for Windows. Right now I'm running individual laptops with 7 & 8. Dual-booting the Win8 laptop with Ubuntu, and the Win7 one with Debian.

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I'm a Windows kind of guy.

I run a Dell Latitude D610 laptop with an Intel Centrino that has Windows XP, and a custom-built desktop with an Intel Pentium Dual-Core, Radeon HD 4870, 3GB of RAM, and like 750GB of HDD space total. I have a new mobo and CPU and case and stuff though (CPU is an AMD Phenom II) but I just need to get 8GB of RAM before I can use it all.

So in a few days, my new computer specs will be AMD Phenom II CPU, Radeon HD 4870 GPU, and 8GB RAM.

I'd go Linux but I haven't found a way to be able to play ALL games on Linux without having any problems. As a gamer, that is the end all be all for me. That, and I don't know how to use Linux lol.

The report leaves out a few things. The i5 is quad core, and the audio are Beats speakers. Not a bad little gaming laptop. Allows me to play most games plus do all of my normal stuff like Photoshop, Audition, etc. I enjoy it and the HP customer service is one of my favourite customer service companies.

At some point I might consider trying Windows 8 again. But I feel like 8 is best for touch screen and not so much for normal tech.

Right now I;m on a Windows vista. Mine was a windows 7 38 bit that I was debating on making a windows 8.

If you're using Vista might as well upgrade to 8 or 7. Unless you're comfortable with vista that is. Also, you should consider upgrading your hardware to 64 bit as opposed to 32 bit. 64 has significant advantages over 32.

Well my computer died, and I'm using my moms and she likes vista. I'm working on rebuilding and hopefully fixing mine, or, if I cant getting a new one.
What's the difference between the 64 and 32 bit?

The super shorthand version is you need a 64-bit OS if you want to use more than 4gb of RAM.

I use Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I don't want to switch to Windows 8 yet because I'm afraid that I can't play all of my pc games there.
