New skills/hobbies

So I've pretty comfortable with the skills I have and haven't really expanded on them to much in recent years. Sure I've gotten better at some of them but I haven't really branched out so I feel like I should try to pick up a new skill.

As of right now I know a fair bit about web design and web development as well as quite a lot regarding graphic work. Most recently I tried my hand at digital painting with varying degrees of success but I wanted to get some opinions and/or suggestions on what I should tackle next. Coming from a more "logical" standpoint I feel like your opinions would hold more weight than If I asked people over social media.

There are two thinks that I've got in mind but they both require quite a high learning curve. In the interest of a more open discussion I won't disclose what they are just yet so I can get a gauge on what you guys think.

So yeah, what skills/hobbies would you recommend, what skills/hobbies do you have and what skills.hobbies could you not live with out now that you've acquired them?

That's cool, I've always found ethical hacking stuff quite interesting but I always struggle to get my head around it.

I've reached a point where none of my skills/hobbies matter unless they are employable.

Well the skills I've been looking into recently are some form of programming (Preferably something that would be beneficial for LG) or I'd like to get into 3D design, I'm already pretty competent with 3D rendering with the likes of Keyshot but not 3D modelling, I find all the prop making channels on youtube so fascinating and I'd love to get into it.

Yeah I know the feeling, I think both of these could be beneficial for employability. I can definitely see the benefits of being fluent with CAD with my current job but that's not really why I want to get into either of them. They're just skills that I have an interest in really.

That being said both of these have pretty high learning curves so it's more a case of whether I want to commit to them which does come back to the whole employable skills thing.

I manage a website for money.
Currently employed full-time doing web development from home. Got lucky and found some monkey who needed a developer.

I'm trying to learn how to ice skate. It's cold most of the year where I live and theres a rink right beside my house, plus its pretty impressive if you ever go skating with someone.

That's a pretty cool hobby (pardon the pun). I went Ice skating a few years ago and while I'm no expert I was pleasantly surprised and how comfortable I found it. My friends were not so fortunate which was quite amusing for me.

Also @dovestrdor as a side note, I just wanted to let you know that it might be worth having a look at when a thread was made and/or last responded to before posting on it. It's a good forum practice not to post of threads that have been inactive for quite some time. This thread is an exception as it was made quite recently but I've noticed some of the threads you've responded too have been inactive for years in some cases. Just thought I'd let you know.

I recently started a regular board game night with some my friend group.

Played a whole list of new games i could review. My latest pickup was a game called Codenames.

I think I saw a review of that one on Tested but I could be wrong. I've never been too big on board games and tabletop games. I've got Cards against humanity and that's fun the first few times you play it but I found that it gets boring pretty quickly after you know most of the cards. I guess there are expansions but I can't be bothered with that.

A few years back at Uni we had a weekly Pathfinder night (It's basically a variant of Dungeons and Dragons for those who don't know). My house mates were really into it but I couldn't really say the same for myself. I do however recall being a Dwarf Monk with high agility which I found quite amusing in itself.

I do find roleplaying games hard to get into. Really needs a good game master and friendly group.

I found myself doing more tabletop stuff with age, life has gotten rather boring..

I know that feeling, a few years ago I would consider an evening eventful if I did anything spontaneous or social, these days an eventful evening consists of getting home from work on time and binge watching the most recent TV programs and Youtube videos I've missed. It's an exciting life I can tell you that aha.

i'm learning to code and i fire hula hoop lol
I also enjoy cooking, idk I've never considered it a hobby bc its necessary but I guess it is

Dude, I'm super into board games. I managed a board game store for a year.

I own an LLC that provides VPN services to DoD employees, as well as acting as a security firm. I suppose you could say ethical hacking. lol

Other than that, I'm extremely fluent in SysAdmin work and Network Engineering. With a stress on security, which is what I get paid to do.

My job is my hobby and my hobby is my skill, I guess. The VPN thing started as a side thing because I was bored. Now it's a second income lol.

Mostly "engineering" stuff. Since it's what helps me to keep my job. I also do some freelance graphic designing once in a while when I feel like it.

I've long forgotten any programming stuff that I've learned before. feelsbadman.

That's the only problem with landing a job doing something that used to be a hobby, now I'm very hesitant to learn more in my personal time. I've not made a pet project in years now that I'm doing it for a living.

Needle felting is pretty neat.

I just learned how to play Pokemon Trading Cards, and now I'm enjoying opening booster packs for fun.
