[Ruby Release] Yahoo Email Availability Checker

Well, since Chad already released one, I figured I'd release my more advanced(?) version I wrote in Ruby and compiled into a jar file to use.

(?) Note: I'm not sure if it's more advanced, Chad said it only read yahoo emails, mine reads every type of Yahoo email.


Future updates: Eventually I'll turn it into a scanner that reads emails from a .txt file. Whenever I feel like it.

If you have reasons to believe I might have put a virus in a simple ruby program then to prove I didn't I'll be willing to send the source of the ruby file itself to a community trusted member I trust myself.

But I don't understand why you didn't just release the source/.rb file considering Ruby and Java are both interpreted languages. Compiling it with the JVM would just make a Java virtual machine a prerequisite. Therefore an interpreter is required either way. That means it isn't really executable or standalone.

And frankly closed source work sucks. Can't understand why something like this would be compiled, but to each his own.

Also you should make it read and parse a text file which I know is something you already have in mind. But it's pretty easy to access standard file IO in Ruby I imagine.

It'd be beyond easy, I'm just lazy (sound familer?) And also, I don't know if you realize this, but this is something I never intended on being a public release. If Yahoo figures out it's being done, they could very well patch it. Oh, well. Nbd. Either way, I still don't like releasing my sources. Some of my work will be open-source however.

EDIT: I already sent as much proof as possible that the program contains no virus' to Arti. So don't bother requesting proof. As long as Arti vouches and I get my PM acknowledged it'll be here.

EDIT2: I compiled it w/ the JVM so my source wouldn't be open.

Being lazy does not sound "familer." And if it wasn't intended to be released to the public, I have no idea as to why it is indeed being released as we speak. Also, I don't know if you know this or not, but Yahoo is already well aware of e-mail availability checking. As a countermeasure they purge these e-mails periodically.

If you don't like it being open source that's fine. But that also doesn't make any sense. But bluntly I also don't care either way. This isn't anything new nor anything significant. I commend the release in itself and the effort; not the program.

Furthermore, I am not concerned about it being malicious or anything of that nature. Especially considering JAR files don't exactly have a reputation of being malevolent.

Oh, don't take the sounding familer comment as an insult, but more of an identity drop.

But yeah, either way. This was never intended on public release. I write toys I like, if they aren't valuable to me I'll release or if I just don't care. As Chad released his I no longer care. Thank you for your positive input, Protozoid.

It was not taken offensively or as an insult. I actually had no idea what you were referring to. I also have no idea what "identity drop" means in this context. My alternate handle of "Protozoid" is known by Artificial and pretty much this entire community. Even my Github account is linked to my other identity and to this handle. The two are not mutually exclusive.

It also sounds a bit contradictory that you say you write "toys" you like yet they have no merit or value to you so you in turn release them.

My input wasn't exactly positive, but rather it was meant to be informative. You're welcome, though.

No clue. Assumed it would be because the Java compilation process or something. Never bothered to consider it. Don't really care lol. Didn't even download it after I realized the source wasn't present.

This is beyond me. It does this to any ruby source I compile into a jar file. I sent you the source and all. I can even go as far as giving you instructions to compile it the way I did and you can see for yourself it compiles to the same size. I have no malicious intentions for your forum.

I'm pretty willing to give you a fresh start. But you acted pretty unreasonable and condescending in this thread. It's cool though. It wasn't a big problem or anything it just felt a bit weird considering you're a new member and all. This lead me to believe you are Izaya, which you may or may not be. But that doesn't matter.

Won't be necessary. After all, your identity in the context of LG is _hylia, right? As far as I'm concerned really you're hylia. All that really matters is being a good member and that you continue to make contributions like this in the future.
