The Poughkeepsie Tapes
[Link to watch the Movie is at the bottom of the post]
has anyone ever seen The Poughkeepsie Tapes?
This movie is pretty um...scary? creepy? Basically all of the above, but I LOVE IT
[Look in my sig to see a short gif of one of the killers videos in the movie]
It's been debated whether or not it should be released on DVD, but so far it hasn't. (It was supposed to be released in 2001, but it's kept getting pushed back)

A serial killer obsessively documents his career in carnage in this pseudo-documentary thriller. When police raid a house in upstate New York, they discover a profoundly disturbing record of one man's ugly crimes. A psychotic serial killer once called the house his home, and along with the implements of his grisly pastime, investigators find over 240 hours of videotape shot by the killer which present a visual record of his murders in all their horrifying details. Both state and federal law enforcement teams sift through the gruesome images, looking for clues of the slayer's identity, the identity of his victims, and where he could possibly have gone. But repeated viewings of the material reveals little beyond the terrible facts of the crimes, and as the authorities comb through the madman's images, they find the tapes have had a disquieting effect on them. Written and directed by John Erick Dowdle, The Poughkeepsie Tapes was screened in competition at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

I watched the image in your signature a few times, and kept wondering what it was from.
Anyways I'd appreciate a link.

YES YES YES YES YES.

Sorry, but i've been looking for that movie for a while :)

I would love a link.
#5
I saw a clip of it on youtube (its the one in your sig) and it freaked me the fuck out
#6
So is it fiction or what?
#7
Fiction-ish. Apparently fiction, but the story bears resemblance to a serial killer that the director had apparently never heard of.
Freaky, freaky story.
#8
Yeah, I'm actually against this kind of stuff. People are sick and twisted enough we don't need to put inspiration out there for them. Don't get me wrong I normally love the killers out of these things or at least the idea behind them(Hannible and Jigsaw) but there is the problem we end up loving the killers.

This story is true. I lived not more than an hour from Poughkeepsie, NY. Monticello. You can find it on google earth. the videos are sitting in an evidence locker right now. and the killer is still on the loose.

the movie may be dramatized and fictionalized a little bit, but it is based on/inspired by a 100% true story. ill wait for the actual release, and if it never gets released ill watch it online.

@Raivu: yes you can post the link, but i would prefer if you post it in the JY, but if you include it in your first post, it will remove any question of any thing. as long as it isnt a warez site, you can post in the public, if it has warez, you will have to post it else where until there is a clear rule on it.

The movie doesn't include the... original clips... does it? O_O

Edited the first post, and posted a link to where you can watch the entire movie for free. No warez at all.

@Everyone: From what I've heard, the Poughkeepsie murderer has been profiled, just not caught. This movie is based off what he's done and has been reenacted for the effect of the movie.
It is a real place
It is a real house
It is a real killer
It is a real murder

From the instant beginning you're hooked through THE WHOLE THING

It is NOT real.
The Poughkeepsie Tapes ? Real or Fiction: A Look at the Horrifying Killings of the Water Street Butcher

There actually was a Poughkeepsie serial killer though. The murders did happen, but videotapes weren't made.

Wikipedia wrote:
The film has some similarities to the crimes of Poughkeepsie serial killer Kendall Francois, who was convicted of 8 murders; he did not film the deaths. However, the director of The Poughkeepsie Tapes stated that he had never heard of Francois until weeks after the film was completed.

The story is more likely based on the crimes of real-life serial killers Roy Norris and Lawrence Bittaker, who in the late '70s and early '80s kidnapped five young women and sound-recorded the girls' screams while torturing them with a pair of pliers and a wire hanger. The girls were later killed. When a tape of one girls' cries was played in court, onlookers ran out of the court and vomited.

I dug a little deeper and on its IMDB page it says it was released on DVD in January 2009. o.O I'm not sure if it's true or not, but I'm going to check next time I go up to Movie Gallery.

Looking at it gave me a stomach ache
#24
The ending is fucked up, but it was a really good movie.
#25
Fucked up, good movie. Was expected, but good. (It's the ending where the guy walks on all four and then punctures the girls neck.. Really gross but awesome. (:.. And I'm pretty sure the mask is a Witchdoctors mask.. pretty cool though.

xD There's no such thing as "Just a Mask". Every mask has a meaning. Look at every mask and you'll see a meaning to it.

Not really, plauge masks were used to to act as a filter for the doctors of that time. They stuffed leaves and herbs in the beak of the mask. Didn't necessarily work but it helped block out the smells of the dead bodies.
